Diego Carrasco Schoch

Diego Carrasco Schoch just completed a mini residency with the Elon Dance Department this Monday and Tuesday! He worked with Ballet V, Modern V, Choreography II, and taught a whole department improvisation class. The dancers and faculty cherish his perspective and vast knowledge about movement and performance! What a valuable past two days!

A Chicano originally from Southern California and now based in Raleigh/Durham, Diego Carrasco Schoch, is a dance artist with 20+ years experience as a performer, choreographer, educator, and guest artist.  He was a Principal Dancer at the Milwaukee Ballet (1991-2003) and a Soloist with the North Carolina Dance Theater under the late Salvatore Aiello (1987-1991).

He has created original dances for a variety of organizations and venues, including most recently, nine choreographies, re-stagings, and collaborations for the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) as a member of the Contemporary Dance Faculty  (2008-2011). His duet, A Place Apart, was a featured artwork for a Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts and Education (LCI) Aesthetic Education Workshop. He is a recipient of a Wisconsin Arts Board Individual Artist Grant and a Breathe Faculty Professional Development Grant from the Kenan Institute for the Arts.

An Assistant Repetiteur for the Salvatore Aiello Trust, he helped stage Sal’s Clowns and Others for the Milwaukee Ballet in 2010. Prior to joining the faculty at UNCSA, he was an Assistant Professor of Dance for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  He is an alumnus of the North Carolina School of the Arts, holds an MFA from the University of Iowa and received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

This fall he will be dancing in his new solo Ode as part of the North Carolina Dance Festival. For more information about Diego, visit www.diegocarrascoschoch.com.
